The End of Design?
Figma released their UI3 AI generator and the reception is mixed. One one hand, (mostly paid) figma advocates are saying it's amazing, awesome, wow, so good!
On the other, many people have legitimate concerns about their work being used to train AI models , AI replacing them and more.
Is this it? Is this the end of design? Will PM's now just generate stuff and fire all designers? Let's think about it in this video.
Go to square.one so you won't have to fear AI.

The Stupid Designer Club?
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.18 часов назад
AI is changing the way we work, whether we like it or not. Is it changing for the better? Not necessarily. We are getting lazy and way less creative. The path is splitting into two and from what I'm seeing that AI-bro way is heading towards lower quality, lower creativity and just simply dumber design. And sure - there are those who run up escalators too - but trust me it's such a small group i...

    Great take on AI in general, but you raised a more important point - what do we as designers have to offer, when the power goes off? Do any of us have skills that can be used without the ability to power something on? I urge everyone to unplug more often and work on skills that can be done offline. It may be related to your current job, but it would be better to branch out and learn skills that can help your survive.

    Thank you for being a real one Michal! AI is still a relatively new technology and really lacks creativity. Both human and AI have strengths and weaknesses

    Great video. I have a lot of experience myself and i can say there are many other complimentary skills that weigh more heavily in terms of value and being hired than going from a 4 to a 5 in UI/UX design. Context: Most people in business will think a 3 is good design because most people in business aren't designers. Most people in business start with a 1 or 2 in design so if you're doing better than that there's a job out there somewhere for you. Also, recruiters don't search based on your design expertise (again they're not a designer), they search based on your profession title. Essential complimentary skills that will make you a highly valuable designer for your clients: Business Problem Solving: UI/UX design is not only about making things pretty. If you're able to solve business problems through your designs and collaboratively in meetings, I guarantee that clients will come back to you and recommend you. Clients care about their business, pretty designs are the figurative icing on the cake. Communication: Your ability to provide context (the situation) and then articulate what, who, where and why in relation to your designs. Telling the story is very important, it's how we communicate. Enthusiasm: Your ability to listen to your client, make them feel heard, and genuinely get on their level with them in their business vision. Woah, isn't that communication i hear you ask? Enthusiasm means you deeply care about what they're doing, really want to be a part of it and want to help them. Receptiveness: When receiving feedback you may feel that because your designs are your ideas, that they're also part of your identity. They aren't, they're just ideas. If this is happening, your focus is too much on yourself and not on the the client and their business. Think of your designs like throwing a tennis ball in the air and you and your client are simply discussing and critiquing it. Collaboration/Nuance: This is the push pull with your team mates and or direct client, between owning your design and letting others have some control and input. Design is a team effort, you will never have all the answers and you'll even find that others have better ideas than you at times. Encourage that creativity, support their ideas, make them feel heard, and include their ideas for a great outcome and they will love you for it because everyone wins. A Challenger Mindset: You're here to challenge the status quo and take initiative. Got a great design that wasn't even asked for? Ask to present it anyway when it's appropriate, even if it's not needed right now. Overdelivering with great problem solving designs when you can will make you stand out and communicate that you're a valuable asset. Also, little seeds grow. Find your style: While inspiration is essential, try not to follow the crowd - make it your own. Discover your own style, what feels natural to you, and clients will approach you for it and will pay you handsomely, because you'll be the only person who can give them that. Hope this helps you on your design journey and good luck out there. If you have any complimentary skills to add please do.

    100% on point, we should use AI to compliment our workflow, not rely on it to do everything. Just like you said we can use escalator to climb even faster, but we still need to do our work. I think AI is great for creating moodboards, maybe even some images that we can then refine in photoshop. For copy it's mostly crap in my opinion. It's really generic and after seeing it few times you get the gist when something is AI written which is a big no for me... Whole point of being designer is to have skill of developing empathy for different users and tackle problems from their perspective. AI doesn't have empathy. It's like really really smart sociopath that is learning from human behaviour but it will never be able to truly empathise with the users...

    Designers (I didn’t say UX Johnny come latelies) are a hockey 🏒 stick business. The 5-10% make all the $ and for decades on end maintain 1-2 solid jobs/clients. Most come for the promise of a high paycheck but few stay employed or get an opportunity. It’s like youtubers, most get scraps and eventually quit.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype 3 дня назад

      That is true. Most of life wins happen with proper skill - and with RUclipsrs only a small percent do it well ( I still don't). With design it's the same - either you're good enough to book clients for years or you struggle. 90% of jobs are like this.

    I've been a designer since 1996 and yes, I was mostly a drag and dropper. If someone thinks he's cool as a UX Designer, he's an idiot, cooler and more original than he is a barber. I made a lot of money, but now it's over. AI destroys everything. I am looking for a new opportunity to survive. With this job, you won't earn a lot of money and you have huge competition. After 38 years, you can look for another job for that you will be surpassed.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype 3 дня назад

      AI is not destroying design as an industry. It's just making lazy/bad people think they're good enough but it's quickly verified. It's nowhere close to actually replacing a design problem solving. Maybe with AGI but that also has a lot of potential issues.

    This is the way t fight back more for the studios and companies. Individual designers bound to 9-5 job will have t use whatever tool employer requests. Many companies are heavily invested in those tools, design systems, ready templayes and complex components and variables. convincing them to completelyabandon tool is most likely nt going to hapen, plus what are the guarantees that new tool won'tpull the same thing. so you'll be hopping from tool to tool.

    Disclaimer.: Before you read this, let me say that I have supported you over the years, bought most of your courses, watch most of your videos, and genuinely love your style and approach to design. I think you’re genuine, and I think you’re trying to help. Now, the harder truth: Right, as we run down the list of $hit that’s falling apart and reasons to be depressed, let’s not forget to include that this industry has been poisoned by companies who largely don’t give two $hits about the quality of experiences for users. We have been managing fragile egos and posturing for a really long time now- pretending we are “making a difference.” Too much cynicism? If you go beyond the clickbait of “Influencers “ and the nonsense that we all espouse in the public arena, this is what our peers, trusted colleagues, and mentors are saying. Most of us are fed up with the pretending. We are fed up with believing there is something we can do to change the insidiousness of corporate disease. We did our best. We fought the good fight. We were brave beyond compare. I’ve seen people in UX say and do things I don’t see other professions doing. And here we are. The gig is up. It’s only about profits, it was always about profits, and people we try to serve are secondary… at best. Can you make that video? Can we have that level of honesty? While I appreciate the optimism, fortitude, and the resilience to push on, there comes a point where lying to ourselves is not productive. We are dancing around so many issues, talking about AI, talking about all the ways that we can change or make a better portfolio. Ugh, I’m truly sick of it. Enough is enough.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype 5 дней назад

      Thanks! Can I make that video? I believe I talked about this a couple of times already. Yes - it was always about profits, but at least 10-15 years ago it was also about creating something cool. Now it's more often a lowest common denominator kinda scenario. However - I am optimistic because corporate world is not worth pursuying anyway. And there's still cool stuff being done in smaller companies and small 1-3 person agencies. This is the future and this is the optimistic version of it I'm pushing people towards. We don't need that corporate safety (which is an illusion anyway). So yes, there has been a huge shift - that was visible even more when Elon fired 80% of twitter and it still ran the same - then meta and amazon followed with 20,000 layoffs. People are just spreadsheet numbers to big orgs. So... Start small orgs and don't let them grow. It's not all bad if you look outside this one scenario.
